Only REALTOR Members of GAAR who have been full time, active members for at least 3 years may serve as Officers or Directors.

The Duties and Responsibilities of all GAAR Officers and Directors include, but are not limited to the following:  Attendance at all Board of Directors meetings (1-2 hours each month), Membership meetings and other Association sponsored functions, full day VAR Leadership Training, full day VAR Annual Professional Standards Training,  VAR major meetings.

Board Members will have the time and will actively support GAAR by their participation and attendance at BoD meetings and membership events.

Board Members are encouraged to contribute a minimum of $99 to RPAC each year.  RPAC is an important facet of our organization and your support as an officer or director is fundamental to the example that officers and directors demonstrate to the membership.

Board Members will serve on short term Task Forces appointed by the President when so requested.

Board Members must have an email address that they check daily for messages.  A great deal of communication between staff, the Board of Directors and membership is accomplished via email.

Board Members must not have an ethics violation or Virginia Real Estate Board violation within the past five (5) years.

Board Members must have served on a GAAR or VAR Committee in the past three (3) years.

No non-realtor occupational conflicts shall supersede attendance and responsibilities at any local and/or state meetings by a Board Member.

The elected officers of the Association shall be:  a President, a President-Elect, a First Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer.   They shall be elected for terms of one year.  The governing body of the Association shall be a Board of Directors consisting of the five (5) elected officers, the immediate past President who shall serve for one (l) year, and six (6) REALTOR members of the Association, with varying terms.  No director shall serve for more than six (6) consecutive years without a one year absence, except the immediate past president may serve a seventh consecutive year.

President-Elect:  The President-Elect shall act for the President in the President’s absence and shall perform other duties as requested by the President.  Although the positions are not successive and are voted on by the membership each year, the President-Elect is making a three year commitment to sit on the Board; as President-Elect, as President and as immediate past President, if so elected each year.  The President-Elect’s job is to prepare to be President and being there with the President-always, not just to step in when the President is not available.

First Vice-President:  The First Vice President serves as Program Chair and has the responsibility of working with the President and President-Elect to lead the Board of Directors, the Committees and the members toward constructive goals.  Although the positions are not successive and are voted on by the membership each year, the First Vice-President is making a four year commitment to sit on the Board, if so elected each year.  In the event of the absence of the President and the President-Elect, the First Vice-President would preside over meetings and perform other duties of the office.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer shall be knowledgeable of the finances of the Association, including all accounts, and certificates of deposits of the Association.  The Treasurer shall be available to sign checks as necessary for the Association Executive to maintain the records of the Association.  The financial reports are prepared by the Association Executive however, the Treasurer shall be informed and knowledgeable of all aspects of the finances of the Association.

Secretary:  The Secretary shall perform all record keeping duties of the Association including the taking and preparing of minutes of the Board of Directors meetings and membership meetings.  The minutes should be prepared and delivered to the Association Executive for distribution and filing in a timely manner.
